Travel is incalculable.
See lessIt gives you an education that you can’t get in any academy.
It gives you adventures, insight, and memories that will enrich your life beyond measure.
It helps you relate to people who think and live differently from you in some way and become less self-centered.
It increases your creativity by installing in your mind that ‘your way’, the way you’ve always been taught and the way everyone at home does it, is far from being ‘the only way’ and quite likely not ‘the best way either.
It makes you more resourceful by forcing you to adapt to unfamiliar people and circumstances.
But note, all this is only true if you travel independently and with an open mind.
I’m not talking about the kind of travel where you go on a package tour, a cruise, or to some all-in resort where you’re surrounded by your compatriots, eat the same food that you’d eat at home, and take every chance to get drunk. You might get some rest and recreation from that kind of trip, a momentary change of pace, or some ‘eye candy’ from sightseeing. There’s nothing incorrect with that, but you won’t get the life-changing benefits that I’m referring to that way.
I recommend that you take a few risks and do it independently or with good buddies of a like mind. Do it with family members only if they are drama-free and open to this kind of travel (otherwise, it will be a nightmare). And if you take a package tour or a cruise, make sure it emphasizes the authentic experience of where you’re going (most don’t).
Finally, if at all possible, travel when you’re young. Don’t wait until you’re retired, as many do. That way, you can take all of the insight you’ll get on your adventures and apply it to your career and daily life. You will certainly not regret that.
